16-19 Bursary Fund - Financial Support for Students 2024-2025
The following information applies to students aged 16-18 on 31 August 2024 taking a full-time further education course in 2024/25.
There are two elements to the Bursary:
Entitlement Bursary
The Government has announced that some students will be entitled to a grant or bursary of £1,200 in 2024/25. You could receive this if you qualify in one of the following categories:
- You are currently living in local authority care.
- You are a local authority care leaver.
- You are receiving Income Support in your own name.
- You are receiving Universal Credit payments in your own name.
- You are receiving Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in your own right as well as Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or UC in your own right.
If you think you are eligible for the Entitlement Bursary, please contact Mrs Jones, Head of Sixth Form.
Discretionary Bursary
If your annual household income is less than £25,000, you may be entitled to additional financial support. This is at the discretion of The Marlborough C of E School and awarded within set eligibility criteria. The school will decide on the amount and type of support that is awarded to the student on an individual basis, and will be subject to the availability of funds. The student must also meet the expectations of The Marlborough C of E School in terms of attendance, progress, attitude and behaviour standards, Where the student does not meet the agreed standards, the school will make every effort to advise the student and help resolve any issues, but retains the right to adjust, rescind or suspend the bursary payments.
Assistance may be available towards the cost of books, essential course equipment, course-related trips for students where the household income is low. The school may offer bursaries in the form of non-cash payments where appropriate, e.g. attendance on course-related school trips.
Criteria for the award are as follows:
- Eligibility for Free School Meals.
- In receipt of Universal Credit, Income Support, Disability Living Allowance or other welfare payments.
Students need to complete an application form and proof of household income (or income-based benefits) will be required:
- P60 – for the latest tax year
- Entitlement/Award letter showing evidence of benefits received.
- Tax Credit Award Notice (TCAN) – showing income from the latest tax year
- Self-assessment Tax Calculation Form (SA302) – evidence of self-employment income.
The application form, available below for download must be completed and returned to Mrs Dalton in the Finance Office. Applications will be considered by the Head of Sixth Form and the Finance Team. Students will be notified of the result of their application within ten working days of submitting it.
All information relating to applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
