Year 9 Speaker Event
BackOn 30th January, the MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) department invited a guest speaker, Paul Hughes, to talk to the whole of Year 9 about his life, career and the importance of studying foreign languages.
Paul Hughes is a former military special operator and, over the course of his military career, he developed fluency in Arabic, Russian and Pashto (a language spoken in Afghanistan), which he used to break boundaries and build connections with people.
As well as his support for languages, Paul also spoke movingly about his difficult time at school, his ADHD, and how he makes sure he makes the most of every day. It was a fascinating and inspiring talk, and Paul’s passion for languages really shone through.
