Art and Design
Vision
‘Art encapsulates some of the highest forms of human creativity’. - Mary Myatt
Our art curriculum inspires and challenges all pupils, providing richness and depth to learning. Students will learn:
-
A range of artistic skills and processes and the knowledge that underpins these;
-
To experiment, explore and take risks in their art;
-
About influential artists, crafts persons and designers, and understand the historical and cultural drivers for their art. An example being the artist Frieda Kahlo;
-
To reflect critically and respectfully on art and design;
-
To create ambitious personalised outcomes.
Our Art curriculum is underpinned by observational drawing from life, which provides students with the foundations to convey the world around them through art. Students will become proficient in using drawing materials, paint, print, textile and sculptural materials to convey their ideas.
As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and prosperity of our nation.
